For Immediate Release
January 9, 2017
The LGBTQ Center of Long Beach is excited to announce it has entered into an agreement to turn over the annual Pink Party to two local community members starting in 2017. In addition, the Pink Party will receive a new name, a new image and renewed energy as the Pride Rally. “We couldn’t be happier to hand this event off to two active and passionate community members to help take this event to the next level,” says Porter Gilberg, Executive Director of The LGBTQ Center of Long Beach.
Celebrating its 10th Anniversary in 2017, the Pink Party was held on the streets of Long Beach, attracting several thousand people on Friday evening prior to the large Long Beach LGBT Pride Weekend. Originally started by a group of individuals in 2007, including now Long Beach City Mayor Robert Garcia, the Pink Party has had a huge run of success. Now, The Pink Party has a new, permanent home, and two passionate community members at the helm.
“The Pink Party has long been a community staple in Long Beach,” says Debra Kahookele, co-founder of the Pride Rally. “We are excited to take this event and bring a new and exciting outlook into it with the Pride Rally.” Stuart Takehara, the other co-founder adds “We want to make the Pride Rally an annual affair with events throughout California and the nation.”
Entertainment will include a live DJ, performances by drag queens, and an awards ceremony to the original founders of the Pink Party. Proceeds from this event will benefit The LGBTQ Center of Long Beach. Follow us online and via social media for the latest news and information regarding entertainers, performers, and activities.
The Pride Rally will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017, at The Pike Outlets, on the 2nd floor near the pedestrian bridge, with gorgeous views of the Long Beach shoreline and the Iconic Queen Mary. The event will begin at 7 pm with music and entertainment until 11 pm.
